Stumbled upon this good page which explains how Applying Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats method can greatly improve our web design process. Thinking in these hats, we can be more objective, focused and productive.

“You know a design is good when you want to lick it,” says Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer. But a truly iconic design must do more than make you salivate. It must have social impact too.

Great design should marry aesthetics with practicality, providing solutions to everyday problems – even if you didn’t know you had them before they came along.

CNN has picked out five great designs from the last 100 years. They are all products which have fundamentally changed the lives of millions of people.

History of a ATM

August 18, 2007

Did you ever wonder about the history of ATM’s. The disruptive technology which bought a revolution in the traditional banking and changed the very dimension of banking. The world’s first ATM was fixed in a branch of Barclays in Enfield, North London, around 40 years ago.

Inspiration had struck Mr Shepherd-Barron, now 82, while he was in bath. “It struck me there must be a way I could get my own money, anywhere in the world or the UK. I hit upon the idea of a chocolate bar dispenser, but replacing chocolate with cash.”

This Trend Map is presented in the form of a tube map. I have really enjoyed browsing this link. So I thought it is worth to put on my blog :)

Could not resist to blog this when I saw this video with this wonderful quote from the Great Mahatma Gandhi.

“If you want to give a message it must be a message of ‘Love’, it must be a message of ‘Truth’. I want to capture your hearts. Let your hearts clap in unison with what I’m saying. A friend asked yesterday, ‘Did I believe in one world?’ How can I possibly do otherwise, of course I believe in one world”.

Big B now in text books

June 11, 2007

Yet another achievement for the Icon of Icons. It is none other than the Great Amitabh Bachchan. Yes he is now going to enter the text books of social science prepared by NCERT for class VII Students as his character in the movie conveys the “Self Dignity” when Amitabh as a kid in Deewar movie refuses to pick up the coin dropped on his shoe polish toolkit and insist the client to put the same in hands with dignity.

This Particular shot from the movie shows how a boy ( a show shiner in the movie) feels about the dignity of work and insists the client that money be given respectfully for the work he has done. I am sure this would be a good message for the school kids on the dignity of work. I personally feel that it is one creative way of inspiring and teaching the school kids out of bollywood.

Below is a youtube video in which at the end Amitabh reminds a person about the above mentioned shot.

Stumbled upon the lovely Video on the Brand launch of One of the Greatest Companies in the World called “Arcelor Mittal“. As expected looks like it was a very Grand Brand Launch Ceremony. Mr. Mittal had launched the Brand by pressing a button on the the screen and there comes a lovely sober subtle animation which in turn evolves into a Arcelor Mittal Logo. I think the logo is so cool, simple, trendy, energetic and dynamic. I would say Overall logo is very appealing and would attract your attention at the very first look at it. I like the font they have used in the logo too. (can anyone please tell me the name of the font?).

Here is link of the Video I have been talking about.
